Well-known Forbes resident Norman Robert Redfern passed away on Tuesday, June 10.

Mr Redfern was known in the district for his wide involvement with the local horse racing industry, commitment to the land and strong work ethic.

Mr Redfern was born in Wellington in 1907, one of nine brothers and five sisters.

He spent his early days in Wellington, working in the town’s Western Stores.

In the 1930s, Mr Redfern purchased his 4000 acre Burcher property ‘Glenrock’.

In 1942, Mr Redfern married wife Jean, a marriage which spanned more than 65 years and ‘Glenrock’ would become the Redfern family’s home for almost 50 years.

A keen follower of horse racing, Mr Redfern’s horses won at least three Bedgerebong Cups and he was a life member of the Bedgerebong Picnic Races Association.

Mr Redfern was aged 100 years and is survived by wife Jean, children Sandra and John, five grand-children and 10 great grand-children.

His funeral is today at St Laurences Catholic Church, Forbes at 11.30am.
